Support you can count on
Our team of physician counsellors is available to provide confidential peer support, advice and assessment to those who are coping with the demands of practice, family, relationships and substance use disorder, or other mental health or life challenges.
We connect physicians with resources related to physician health and wellness, including psychologists, support groups, courses and other treatment and support options. Peer support physicians may also suggest appropriate resources or professionals.
We can also provide guidance if you are concerned about a colleague, need advice on a medico-legal issue, are navigating a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia investigation, or are seeking resources on physician health and wellness.
In addition, our PSP counsellors are available to lead group outreach sessions for physicians, covering the latest wellness tools, resources, peer support and much more.
DNS Pathways offers counselling and physician peer support for those navigating personal and professional challenges.
We are not an emergency or 24/7 crisis response service.
For situations where a physician or family members feels they need immediate support, we recommend connecting with established crisis resources, depending on the level of urgency:
- Provincial Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Line: 1-888-429-8167
- Suicide Crisis Line: 9-8-8
- 811: For non-emergency health advice and guidance
- 911: If there is an immediate concern for their health or safety
- Nearest emergency department: For urgent or immediate support
